![]() The Saturn was already out over there by that point, and since the Mega Drive was never that popular in the land of the rising sun, Alien Soldier received a rather small print run, and the Japanese version now sells for approximately $TEXAS. Originally released in 1995, this was one of the last games Sega published in Japan for the Mega Drive. This is what leads most players to either love or hate the game. This time around, Treasure drops almost any pretense of actual levels and just gives you what are essentially short refuel stations between about 35 huge multi-sprite bosses, and they never let up. As noted above, though, what really sets Alien Soldier apart is the progression of the game. ![]() In Alien Soldier, you're also given a substantial repetoire of different moves, but you really need to learn how to master each and every one of them in order to survive. In Gunstar Heroes, you had a lot of different weapons and combinations to pick from, but the game could be cleared easily enough no matter which weapon you went with. Whereas Gunstar Heroes featured colorful anime style characters & environments and was designed to be accessible to just about any type of player, Alien Soldier is gritty sci-fi fare and Serious Business from start to finish. Alien Soldier is the fifth game by Treasure and the first game I know of that Nami directed.
